Tribute to our founder Anita Lamb Sorrill:

Anita passed away unexpectedly December 13, 2005. She was a jeweler, poet and the moving force behind our
gallery and the arts community in Hannibal. The Hannibal Arts Council presented Anita Sorrill the Paragon
Volunteer Award in 2003-2004. This award was for an Outstanding Art Project to a business or organization that
has helped pull together a community arts project with recognized success and leadership. We honor her memory
by continuing in her footsteps to keep the Alliance Art Gallery 112 N. Hannibal, Missouri alive and thriving. Her
commitment to “A Hand Made Life” will inspire us always.

Ann Miller Titus has been stitching since she was a little girl, when her grandmother gave her a printed cross stitch sampler to embroider.
In the mid 1980's she began making wall quilts and while each consisted of three layers hand stitched together they differed significantly
from traditional quilt designs. Nearly twenty years later, Titus joined the River Road Fiber Artists where she began to experiment with a
wide variety of surface design techniques to alter textiles, still honoring her quilt making roots by continuing to stitch layers of fabric
together.

Most recently, her work has reflected her interest with mapping and graphing. Layers of dyed fabrics and paper create a series of imaginary
spaces charted by lines of stitching. These spaces are brightened through the use of vintage fabrics and found objects.

Titus work has been juried and exhibited in several states throughout the Midwest. All receiving numerous awards. She also teaches a
variety of surface design techniques, including fabric discharge, use of disperse dyes, image transfer and felt making. Titus also teaches
traditional quilt making classes and is respected for her precision piecing and handwork. In addition to her affiliation with the River Road
Fiber Artists. Titus is also a member of the Great River Artisans Cooperative and the Quincy Quilting GuildAlliance Art Gallery
